To be honest, I’d stopped paying attention to how Microsoft was copying the look and feel of the Mac some years ago. Once Windows 95 was released, it was obvious they weren’t even trying to hide it anymore. The always entertaining Daniel Eran Dilger, however, has jumped right back into the thick of it- with a twist. According to his article on AppleInsider, now MSFT is using the red-hot popularity of the iPad as inspiration for icons in the next revision of Windows.
Dilger tracks the history of Apple’s and Microsoft’s visual appearance, and interestingly mentions that in the early days Microsoft hired Susan Kare (designer of the original 1984 Mac icons) to create similar elements for their operating system. I did not know that.
